Let me introduce you to Texture on the Runway!
In addition to Target, sponsors for the event include Dark and Lovely, Garnier, Design Essentials, Cantu, Creme of Nature and a few other major natural hair brands. Texture on the Runway felt like a family reunion of all my favourite bloggers, vloggers, hair gurus, hair brands and just all around fabulous people whom I love and adore! I got to see youtube queens Taren Guy, Naptural85, and MoKnowsHair. I hung out and shared laughs with my fellow bloggers turned besties Fedorah, Jessica, Courtney, and Britt! And honestly, there were many more beautiful gals in the crowd but there’s far too many for me to list right now. Trust me we would be here all day! You will have to look at all the photos from the events and snoop out more of your favourites. Now, less about my experience and more about the purpose behind it.
During Fashion Week, we do see some pretty impressive and creative expressions of beauty and design. The problem many are complaining about, is the level of diversity we see in those expressions. You can usually count on one hand the number of women of colour who are featured on a runway line up. And even fewer, are the women of colour who get to rock their natural tresses in all its beautiful, curly, textured glory. 4 years ago Naturally Curly brought us the first ever Texture on the runway event. It was smaller but the message was clear.
This year Naturally Curly and Target absolutely blew us all away with a show of a lifetime. From an amazing DJ and an incredible high energy dance performance to a hair studded sassy sexy and fun runway; the event was engaging and inspiring to say the least.
I attended Texture on the Runway as an Instagram Ambassador and also got the opportunity to strut my stuff on the runway styled by the Garnier team. My curls were bouncy, soft, and full of life. I loved the results! I also enjoyed getting my face beat and rocking a fun casual style for my debut.
I can tell you first hand, there was nothing but heart passion and dedication behind the scenes of Texture on the Runway. I absolutely can not wait for the next event and look forward to seeing out they manage to top this year!
