TRAVEL: WEEKEND GUIDE TO SAN FRANCISCO

Known for being an incredible hub for the tech industry, San Francisco is also truly beautiful, full of amazing restaurants, and then on the not so cool side, crazy expensive. Is it somewhere you need to visit though? Abso-freaking-lutely.

Me and my good friend Jess, of Heygorjess.com decided to take an epic tour around the US hosting travel brunches for our fellow travel and beauty enthusiasts. We wanted to create an event that would bring women together and allow us to share our travel tips and tricks in hopes of encouraging the lovely ladies who attend to skip purchasing a new purse or a few expensive nights out for a trip somewhere new, somewhere different. We are so happy that we made this beautiful city our first stop on the tour. This was actually the first trip to San Fran for both of us! I had fallen in love with all the amazing images I had seen over time, but unfortunately, I never really found that perfect space in my schedule to take the trip.

Well, that is, until now!

FYI, don’t hesitate to visit the San Francisco Tourism Office to get all the information you need! They are so friendly and ready to help!

ACCOMODATION

So where to stay when you head to San Francisco? As with picking a hotel anywhere, you have to think about what kind of neighborhood you want to be in. Maybe you want to party hardy or you want to chill. Maybe you want to save them coins or splurge a little and be in a luxurious room that’s super central. For us, we wanted to be central but also affordable. We booked our hotel on the 6am flight over from NYC. We used our FAVOURITE last-minute site, Hotwire.com to make the booking. We actually are pretty obsessed with Hotwire. We used it the first time for our trip to New Orleans and ended up saving over $900 on our hotel so now we are dedicated to the cause. We use the feature that allows you to book a mystery hotel with specifications you can outline like 4 or 5 stars, a pool, free parking, and free internet. You won’t know the exact hotel they are offering but they tell you the general area, important amenities, and the price! The cost is legitimately 20%-50% less. We compared it!

The hotel we ended up with was the Sheraton and it was located in the popular neighborhood of Fisherman’s Wharf. We loved it! They let us check in 5 hours early, had super friendly hotel staff, and had the perfect little gym on site for our morning workouts. Try Hotwire if you are looking for a place and don’t mind the little element of surprise as you can save a good amount!

TRANSPORTATION

We used Uber to get around everywhere for the most part but San Francisco also has a great network of trains, trams, buses, and ferries to get you around the city. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can opt for a bike rental, just be ready for a workout on all the steep hills they have! You can get a visitor’s one day, 3-day, or one week transportation pass good for the busses, metros, trams, and cable cars.  Visit SFMTA.com for more information!
