“ALWAYS KEEP PLAYING #LikeAGirl” VIDEO!

I am in love with the messaging behind the Always Keep Playing #LikeAGirl campaign video – and here’s why!

As a woman in my twenties, there is still nothing more empowering to me than to see other women supporting, encouraging, and uplifting one another. But this sense of sisterhood love and respect that we share for each other starts with supporting our young girls. A person has to believe in themselves to be able to support and empower the next.

I have met so many beautiful young girls who you can tell take every word you say as truth. You need to make sure the words you tell them uplift and empower them, and not shame or discourage them. Somewhere along the way, these magical little beings will come to question themselves. They will reflect and wonder; are they cool enough, pretty enough, smart enough, funny enough, do they play the best, do they run the fastest, etc. The new Always Keep Playing #LikeAGirl video is an inspiring reminder that our words are the tools to reinforce confidence in our magical little girls so they know that when they’re told they “jump like a girl”, it means they have an awesome jump!

Additionally, the Always Global Puberty Educational program (if you haven’t heard of it, find out more here!)  has reached over 20 million girls around the world. The program helps to educate girls going through puberty on the changes their bodies are facing to remove the fear and the shame of the experience, one that can be very isolating for some. The more comfortable and open society grows in the conversations surrounding periods, the less women will feel the need to hide or be embarrassed them.

The Always #LikeAGirl campaign is working to change the negative connotations of #LikeAGirl so the phrase will give young girls a sense of empowerment. Check it out below!

 

I will admit, before watching the Always Keep Playing #LikeAGirl video, I did not take much notice of the negative connotations attached to the phrase ‘like a girl’. I just accepted them. It really opened my eyes to how important it is that we change this association so that when our young girls learn those words, they will learn of their greatness, and not their weakness. I am excited to see the campaign grow and am eager to do my part. Make sure you join in the campaign and share the Always Keep Playing #LikeAGirl video with your friends and relatives!
